Gordon Brown, texture like sun

Just watched Gordon Brown live on BBC News 24. Interesting that he got his word in before Blair’s scheduled announcement. The gist of his statement was basically: “I have worked with the prime minister for over twenty years now, in good times and bad, and we are both committed to the same principles and beliefs, blah, blah, blah (smiles). I will support the prime minister whatever decision he makes (smiles), because it is his decision to make (smiles), and he must decide what is best for the country and the party. And this gun that I’m holding to his head should not make any difference to his decision.”

End of speech. Blair coming up soon.

you are a legend! I was watching BBC the other day, when they said that guys name Gordon Brown(I am not too familiar with uk politics). Anyway, immediately that song came into my head which made me laugh.

Well, you’ll probably appreciate this post as well then…

so what the guys take on the Iraq war? From what i can see brits are pretty upset about that one. Is this guy another new labor type?

  4. Citizen Sane says:

Well, that’s the million dollar question. Nobody is really sure exactly what he thinks about anything. Is he New Labour? No, not really. Basically, much of the party is split along Blairite (New Labour) and Brownite (neither New nor “old” Labour, probably somewhere in between) factions. He would probably seek to reconnect with “traditional” Labour values wherever possible.

It would be more accurate to say that Brown, one of the origional primogenitors of both the term and concept of ‘new Labour’ is exactly that, while Blair is more of a one-nation Tory. All responsibility, but less rights, in the interest of communitarianism.

Even bigger on the private sector than Brown too.
