Sometimes I really fear for the future of this country

Every so often you come across a news story that is so wrong (not factually, but in the sense that what it is conveying is just wrong – in so many ways) you simply do not know where to begin. This is one of those stories.

It appears that some pregnant teenagers continue to smoke in the misguided belief that it will stunt their baby’s growth, resulting in a less painful birth. I am lost for words.

One can only hope that some of the other side effects of smoking (low sperm count, impotence) might stop some teenagers getting pregnant in the first place.

Oh come on leave those teenage mothers alone. Of course smoking whilst pregnant is not the best thing for your child’s health, but neither is putting off getting pregnant until you are 40, just because you have a ‘career’.

What a ridiculous thing to say. The risks associated with smoking whilst pregnant are hardly comparable to those of having a child at 40.

    …..and you have the stats

  4. Devil's Advocate says:

The problem is some of them get pregnant precisely to help finance their cigarette habit among other things. They don’t have a realistic idea of parenthood in the first place.

As for having a child at 40, the comparison between the two is laughable. Having a child later does not equal 40 for most mothers, and at least they can support themselves, rather than relying on hand-outs from the state in order to buy chew bars that count as breakfast for their 5 year old “Kyle”.

  5. Citizen Sane says:

Pesky women, having careers, then having babies a bit later at the time of their choosing, when they’re in a better emotional and financial position to raise and support them, and still having a good job to return to if they choose, and not taking welfare payments instead.

    Selfish bitches.

    Not even slightly comparable.

It looks as though the ‘liberal elite’ have finally found a a class of person that they can vent all their pent up prejuduces upon. Race, culture, sexuality are all beyond The Pale so whose left – oh 15 year old girls who are a bit thick – lets demonise them. These girls may not make the best decisions and they may cost the state, but I think the problems they cause are no worse than many others.
The point of my initial statement was that teenage girls are not alone in not doing ‘what is best’ for the baby so should not be uniquely vilified. Older mothers have also put their interests before that of their child, but older mothers tend to be middle class so thats alright then
