“Teenage angst has paid off well, now I’m bored and old.”
So sang Kurt Cobain on “Serve The Servants”, opening track on In Utero – the slightly less popular follow-up to Nevermind. That’s putting it mildly of course. The entire world bought Nevermind, then seventeen people bought In Utero. But I always liked that album.
I digress. Substitute the words “teenage angst” with “writing angry political rants”, “paid off well” with “been lots of fun” and “bored and old” with “tired, slightly less angry and don’t have as much spare time as I used to” and you’ll see why I had to start this blog up. I had a great time writing Liberal Elite. There were some good arguments, some good counter-arguments and I thoroughly enjoyed documenting my thoughts on various issues and events on a regular basis. For the most part, I still stand by everything I have written since March 2005. For the most part.
But the time seems right to start something else, if only to keep myself interested. Hence this new, eponymous blog now hosted by WordPress. I got bored with Blogger – and the domain name I wanted was already taken there – so, after first looking at TypePad (which, as far as I can tell, provides exactly the same functionality as Blogger or WordPress except with the added privilege of having to actually pay for it) I wound up here.
I intend for the new blog to be a little more general in terms of its subject matter, freeing me up to write about whatever takes my fancy, perhaps not focusing quite so much on previous common targets. I don’t really think I have much left to say about religion, atheism, the “anti-war” movement or George Galloway, for example. That said, politics and current affairs are still my main interests, so it’s not like I’m going to start talking about what I had for breakfast or how much I like basset hounds.
Anyway, I hope what pitifully few readers I had at the last place will follow me over here too. If you’re still there, please say hello in the comments!

Your breakfast sounds excellent I must say. I had a BLT which was nice, but you can’t beat pancakes with sausages. Good work.
